This was an opportunity to jumpstart my community service to 20 hours. When I donated, I donated to the Orangeburg Area Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation. The reason why I donated to this organization was because I have a friend with sickle cells and I know that the children and adults that have this condition go through a lot from the day their born until their adults & that it can be hard for them . I know that they need all the help that they can get and this is why I wanted to donate for this organization.
The goal of this drive was to donate a toy for 3 hours, and you could donate up to 3 items total to get up to 9 hours. I decided to donate 3 toys to get 9 hours because I feel like that was a good deal to donate only 3 toys for the amount of community service that I will receive. The toys I chose were pretty simple items for a child and I feel like they would still play with the toys because of how they look.
The ideal of this opportunity was to get a Teddy bear or book for 3 hrs in total, the item limit was up to 3 items and I bought 3 books in total. I feel like the books that I chose were good for little kids to learn and read if need help developing their reading habits.
I downloaded the app called "PantherX" which is a new app that will help me keep up with events for my school. This app will give you any updates they are talking about at Claflin other than trying to go on the Claflin website to
The form was basically about Constitution Day and it taught me that the day is important because it was how most black people got freedom after slavery. You had to read the description and answer questions to find answers about Constitution and the 3 branches as well.
I enjoyed giving back to women in need because it is so many women out there that need the items that were required. I always didn't mind giving back because growing up in the church has taught me if I ever gave back, I will always be blessed. I feel like everyone should always give back or have a chance to give back because you will be blessed accordingly.
This community service event was amazing because the women that was speaking definitely have an amazing impact on women. She talked about her college life journey and what it took to overcome obstacles that she faced in life. The women that was speaking name is Ms. Megan Rivers and she is a News reporter.
During my time going to these virtual events, I have learned a lot about self-worth and being a black women getting through college.
