We are a community of character that demonstrates key strengths including caring acts of compassion and kindness. ‘Character Care Closet' (A Community Kindness Mission) is being implemented to help provide basic, essential items to Orangeburg County citizens in need.
Description and How it Works
Character Care Closet is designed to assist citizens of Orangeburg County that are in need of basic items and necessities to facilitate their daily living. Initial implementation focuses on needs of students in Orangeburg County schools (PreK – 12). Items may include, but not limited to, clothing (uniforms, coats, gloves, socks, undergarments, etc.); school supplies (pencils, paper, backpacks, etc.); toiletry and hygiene items (toothbrush, deodorant, etc.)
· Professional School Counselors (or school representatives) identify needs of a student and communicates them to Orangeburg County Community of Character (via prescribed method).
· Through our ‘Care' network, we will secure donation. (We will either secure actual item or use donor donations to purchase item.) Desired turnaround time less than one week. Our closet is virtual. We don't currently have a large space to maintain regular inventory; so turnaround needs to be carefully executed. (School representatives are notified, if for any reason, the request cannot be filled.) At this time, we are requesting only new items be donated.
· Orangeburg County Community of Character secures volunteers to help manage the program (securing funds, items in need, and coordinating transportation if necessary).
NOTE: Youth and college students do not sign up here. Youth and college students submit requests for approval under "Service Learning (College Students)".
