About
All spring events with Great River Greening have been cancelled due to COVID-19. Please reach out to gmastellone@greatrivergreening.org with any questions.
The Big Woods Heritage Forest WMA includes some of the last remaining “Big Woods” habitats in Minnesota. Volunteers will plant 14,000 tree seedlings including oaks, hickories, and dogwoods to strengthen the area for local wildlife and outdoor enthusiasts. We will work in two shifts to maximize our efforts and get outside in this beautiful natural area.
Volunteer shifts will be from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. There will be water and snacks provided.
Once you have registered through GivePulse, organizers from Great River Greening will approve your registration and you will receive confirmation. You will continue to receive reminders as the event nears. If you have further questions, please email volunteer@greatrivergreening.org.
If you are a minor registering yourself, you will need to provide an email address in the "Linked Survey" box so we can send the Youth Liability Waiver to your parent or guardian. If you are an adult bringing a minor, you can add them as an attendee and simply check the "Youth Waiver" box upon registering. If you are an adult registering yourself and another adult, you will need to enter their unique email address to the Attendee registration, so they can confirm their registration and sign a waiver.
If you'd like to register as a group (Scout Troop, employees of a company, a school group, gardening club, etc), please contact volunteer@greatrivergreening.org.
EVENT TIMELINE:
This event will operate differently than most Great River Greening restoration events. We will be working in two shifts to try and get as many seedlings in the ground as possible. You can either arrive at 9:00 am and work until 12:00 pm, or arrive later at 1:00 pm and work until 4:00 pm. Great River Greening staff and volunteer supervisors will be available to guide the work.
LOCATION:
This event will be located south of Lonsdale, MN at the intersection of Highway 62 and 125 Street W. Additional parking instructions, as well as a detailed map, will be sent out to registered attendees.
SAFETY:
Ensuring the safety of our volunteers is our highest priority. It is important that event participants wear close-toed shoes and long sleeves to protect against ticks and scratchy brush. We recommend dressing for the weather, layers are key. Water will be available on-site for refills, but to reduce waste we hope you will bring your own reusable container.

All volunteers participating in Great River Greening events release Great River Greening and its employees, officers, directors, or agents from any and all liability from claims of any nature whatsoever arising from participation the extent such liability is directly attributable to the negligence of GRG, or its respective employees, officers, directors or agents.
